Con: temporary Quarters

led by artists Aoife Ward and Eve Woods
a satirical project which brings to attention to the use of and availability of spaces; public space, cultural space and housing.

The first iteration of this project manifested a twice sold out walking tour for Culture Night 2022, A Cultural Tour of Hotels in the Liberties. The leaflet from the tour was for sale in the Dublin Art Book Fair 2022.

Following from this successful tour, the duo held a performance event in the Staycity Francis St. Liberty Plaza, ‘How to Exist in a Public Space’, and ‘Open House’ a satirical real estate performance at a derelict site in Dublin 7.

Con: temporary Quarters: The Exhibition was held in on the site of the former Tivoli Theatre on Francis Street, Dublin 8 in September 2023. The Tivoli Theatre demolition was approved by DCC planning on the prerequisite it would be replaced by an active exhibition and theatre space, with an external cinema and stage. Staycity Aparthotel has been open since 2021 while an empty shell, and non-exhibition space lies vacant and unaccessible to the public.
The exhibition highlighted the misuse of the space, the loss of cultural space and the failure of the planning system to meet its promises.
